Jocelyne - Kassoumail
|
Painting, sculpture, collage, wood burning. Jocelyne
needs multitude, mouvement. Emerges from the volcano and expresses
through various materials. From a branch found during a walk emerges
Upper Totem (Haut Totem). He is here, figure, keeper, carnal presence.
A transcendence, a representative to whom you must not tell a story.

Over twenty years of production with traditional
materials, paper, canvas, corrugated cardboard. Her eye is also
seduced by plants, minerals, other elements which cause an impulse
of a future work to develop in her. The sudden appearences unfold,
traces appear. A form takes shape, a long and painful process unfoldes.
The imagined form does not let itself be transformed, the material
resists, the gesture is at odds with what is desired. Rage, anger,
disappointement, sometimes abandon, often exceeded.

Achievements happen.

Successive layers, doubts are seen by the transformations,
trail and error. Her glance captures and creative mouvement opens.
Overpowering. Intuition. In this flood, this emotional outpouring
allows to see the bottom, deep in herself.
|
Look at everything that is offered beyond the overall
perception and instant of first impressions. In the formless substance,
in the lush colors, shapes emerge, a face often appears in its inevitable
confinement. Our eye caught by a detail leads us to another detail.
The reading of a work by Jocelyne is a journey, a journey through
the cells, meanders, lunar landscapes, skeleton villages, smiling
masks, floating grimacing figures, in the making… The apperance
of an explosion of rhythms and forms is like a rebirth after the
cataclysm. A life is revealed, hopeful, trembling, hesitant. In
the incomplete forms reads a density due to it's dramatic textures,
it's blends of materials.

Other creations are a detailed container. Weavings
and collages of paper. Delicate eggshell marquetry, on boxes, small
furniture.
|
Her creation, completed, becomes a strange stranger.
Her critical eye, her sense of incompleteness, of failure, can be
overwhelming. Saving her work requires sympathetic witnesses, to
insure that this blind fate is recognized and dares to be exposed.

A light, a depth, a new opportunities are seen
in many of her works. Each of her approaches, her achievements,
use of materials found within reach, in sight, in the forest, at
the seashore, in the attics or event trash cans and other unlikely
places make her an artist of the unusual, an artist near to Art
Brut.
