Kassoumail is the name that Jocelyne Pétiard chose long ago, during a trip to Casamance that marked her, and that she uses to sign her work. Kassoumail is the word for "welcome" among the Diola people, a fiercely indepentend people and very attached to their ancestors. more ...

Art brut is a term coined by the painter Jean Dubuffet to describe the productions of people free of artistic culture.

Art brut includes productions by non-art professionals free of artistic culture working outside agreed upon aesthetic norms (mental asylums patients, isolated self-taught individuals, mediums...). Dubuffet meant that it is a spontaneous art, culturaly unpretentious and without an intellectual approch. [translated from French wikipedia]
